The ASNT Straight Silver Snoot is another American made accessory that we build and finish “in house”. One is included with many of the new Flash Heads as a specialty lighting effect and as a flashtube protector when desired. (The Extra Small Heads don’t include one, but it could also work for them)
When shooting the light output is the same f-stop as bare bulb would be at the same distance. The light is severely restricted to the open end of the Snoot. As these are silver, they do tend to have a graduated fall off and some light spill.
It is not unusual for people to spray-paint the open inside end with matt black paint to tighten the field of view and magnify the fall off of the light.
When you travel, if you wish that the reflector could be packed separately from the Head, then using the Snoot over the glass flashtube is a great way to protect the tube from most damage while it is packed up. It takes up much less space in the gear bag for the sensitive stuff and the reflectors can bounce around with the extension cables or whatever.
